Frequently asked questions
Select local non-profits and businesses (teams) have the opportunity to prepare and cook chili to compete for charity. Each team will choose a non-profit/charity to sponsor and all proceeds will go towards the sponsored charity. During an open-public tasting, members of the community will be able to taste each entry and vote for their favorite in varying categories. The chili with the most overall votes will receive a check donation for their respected non-profit.
• Registration is due Friday, February 9th, 2024 by 5pm.
• Chili Cooking can be done on-site, but requires all equipment to be brought in (such as electric burners, etc.) Cooking may also be done off-site, and brought in warmers. There are no stovetops on-site.
• Voting will take place beginning at 12:00pm on Sunday, February 18th and end at 2:00pm. Voting tickets will be available for $10/person. All of these profits will be split between all participating teams to give to their respective charities – so the more people who come to taste, the more money each charity receives. The voted overall best chili will receive an additional $250 to their respective charity.
• Other Food Items & Beverages: You are welcome to provide other food or beverage items to accompany your chili, however, NO alcoholic beverages are allowed to be given or sold, in accordance with Cornerstone’s Liquor License.
COOKING: Teams are responsible for supplying all cooking utensils and supplies needed, as well as furnishing their own electric cooker or warmers. These will not be provided to you. You will be provided one 6ft table. If additional tables are needed, you must supply them yourselves.
QUANITY: Early estimate asks to make enough for 100 participants. If at some point the organizing committee believes this number to increase, all teams will be notified. All tasting cups will be in 8oz Styrofoam cups provided by host for consistency. Cups will be roughly half-filled to leave room for toppings. (Estimate to make 3-3.5 gallons of Chili).
SANITATION: In accordance with Iowa Health Department regulations, Teams must have the following at their tables for use while preparing, cooking and serving:
Hand sanitizer
Disinfectant spray for preparation surfaces (e.g., Lysol, bleach and water, etc.)
Plastic gloves (for serving)
DÉCOR: Teams are encouraged, not required, to name their chili and decorate their cooking area to reflect that name.
MORALE: This chili cook-off is for teams who just want to have fun and be recognized for their superb culinary skills while supporting amazing causes. Let your hair down (but wear a hat!!!)! Dress up, wear a costume, just have fun!
